WORDLIFE

April 17th, 2012 by Dave Ruby Howe | No Comments | Filed in Hyperbole

Here’s a rather delicious pairing from two Sydney faithful with the Wordlife dudes on the track and the elusive Joyride doing his creamy vocal thing on top. If this doesn’t cement it for you that bouncy, soulful house is back then nothing will.

DAMN TERRAN

April 12th, 2012 by Dave Ruby Howe | No Comments | Filed in Hyperbole

No doubt you’ve come into contact with a force of ‘fury’ over the years whether it be fury of fists or balls alike but with Melbourne noise-makers Damn Terran you’re getting in a different way. Indeed, the band themselves term it ‘post-punk-fury’ and I’d like to add it comes with some fiery femme howling and an intense attitude that just SLAYS.

DIRT FARMER

April 5th, 2012 by Dave Ruby Howe | No Comments | Filed in Hyperbole

Up to now Melbourne’s Dirt Farmer have been impressing with their steady output of sad-eyed alt-country-indie-soul but with new single ‘Kick It’ the dudes throw back the curtain revealing that underneath the plaid they rock some serious pop chops. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this song is perfect. Fight me if you think otherwise.

THE BELLIGERENTS

March 29th, 2012 by Dave Ruby Howe | No Comments | Filed in Hyperbole

It seems like a good time to be in Queensland. Throw a stone and you’ll likely hit a group of handsome young lads wagging their guitars about and making tight little jams. Among that lot are The Belligerents, more sun-bathed dudes from up north and with their latest cut Infatuation they too seem like they’re having dickloads of fun bouncing around and partying. The tune comes with an extra smooth remix from fellow Maroon and certified disco funk genius Wolfwolf. Yes to the ten thousandth degree.

VAN SHE

March 29th, 2012 by Dave Ruby Howe | No Comments | Filed in Hyperbole

The brostests with the mostest Van She have at been revived from their studio hibernation with their first new offering in ages, Idea Of Happiness. The throbby synth line should please prog fans while the otherwise chirpy production just oozes good-time pop vibes. Get in.

2SUGARS

March 28th, 2012 by Dave Ruby Howe | No Comments | Filed in Hyperbole

There’s some nicely twisted beats emanating from Melbourne right now courtesy of production twosome 2Sugars. We’ve Got Our Obsessions is the pick of the bunch for me, an elegant little puncher with precise sample manipulation but scope out their Soundcloud for a fuckload of other beats currently on the boil.

SWIMWEAR

February 28th, 2012 by Dave Ruby Howe | No Comments | Filed in Hyperbole

The dude Tim Derricourt has exposed his inner popstar with the release of his first EP under the Swimwear moniker. It’s all about dreamy synth work and the best vibes. You can cop the whole EP for free right here. Win win win.

TAXIDERMY HALL

February 24th, 2012 by Dave Ruby Howe | No Comments | Filed in Hyperbole

This isn’t the first time I’ve swooned over Taxidermy Hall – the Victorian electronic savant creating plush synth driven pop. The dude’s back with a new tune that benefits from some sweet boy/girl traded vocals. How is this lad not a thousand times more popular?

JOHN CHAMBERLAIN

February 9th, 2012 by Dave Ruby Howe | No Comments | Filed in Hyperbole

I know it’s been a while since I posted something that could be considered ‘straight-up dance music’ on Hyperbole but this track should atone for that. And then some.

John Chamberlain – or Chambo as it looks like he’s changing his name to – comes to us from Melbourne at the ripe young age of of 21 and already he’s creating crystalline bangers of the highest pedigree. I’m particularly boner-ised by Suburban Noise, a heaving yet euphoric slab of trousey goodness. What a description!

ELIZABETH ROSE

January 23rd, 2012 by Dave Ruby Howe | No Comments | Filed in Hyperbole

Having built up a fierce reputation as a pusher of spectral electronic pop over the last year and a bit, 2012 looks to be the year that Elizabeth Rose really makes her mark. Her live show’s an unassumingly thumping affair, she’s getting backed by Inertia Access and now she’s deigned us with this new single ‘Ready’. Same intoxicating layered vocals with bubbling beats and fizzing electronics in the tightly packed production.
