Having built up a fierce reputation as a pusher of spectral electronic pop over the last year and a bit, 2012 looks to be the year that Elizabeth Rose really makes her mark. Her live show’s an unassumingly thumping affair, she’s getting backed by Inertia Access and now she’s deigned us with this new single ‘Ready’. Same intoxicating layered vocals with bubbling beats and fizzing electronics in the tightly packed production.

The bubbling synth line that kicks off ‘Pretty Lady’ from Brisbane duo Dracula Palms is a bit like riding the skies with Marty McFly in the Delorean, tracking back in time to when MGMT were still fun to listen to. That reference point is pretty obvious but you’ll see it’s also pretty apt. It shouldn’t matter though as the world could certainly use a little more technicolour disco pop like this.

Bold proclamations usually come with the promise of eating non-consumable stuff so let me state for the record that if savvy advertising dudes won’t be clamouring to book Evan & The Brave’s single ‘Lil Monster’ for a delightfully twee ad campaign soon then I’ll happily eat like 20 hats.

Gunns‘ ‘Pigeons In The Pond’ sounds as if it was recorded through a glass pressed against the wall of the best garage band in Western Australia. And that’s pretty apt considering that Gunns is made up of Cam and Clint from brawny WA heroes The Growl. Bliss out stuff.

We’ve been totally smashing Them Swoops on the radio recently and here’s why; they rule. They’re a bunch of bros out of Melbourne who manage to create a nice, full sound of breezy guitars, brisk tempos and blockbuster choruses that’ll lodge themselves in your ears. Permanently. And that’s a very good thing.

It’s not too late to jump on board with the wonderful Rainbow Chan. The Sydney quirkster is back with Sweet Tooth, a slowly ebbing slice of downbeat pop music built on smushed bass grumbles and tinkering electronic touches that’re hard to resist.

You might’ve tuned into Whyte Fang’s stuff when the Sydney producer popped up on blogs with ‘Thy New Sound’ and that Nelly Furtado cover but now she’s back with a good wad of new material for everyone to blush about. Hooking up with Australian indie dreamers The Grates, Whyte Fang reinvents some tracks from the Brisbane band’s ‘Secret Rituals’ LP, turning the tightly wound garage tunes into dark and stormy electronic gems. The Grates remixed has always felt a little prickly but this works scarily well with Patience Hodgson howling all manic over these deep, throbbing electro textures and icy synth stabs.

I’ve been digging the sounds coming out of VEEN’s technicolour caravan and thankfully got along to their single launch in Sydney over the weekend to catch what could only be described as some kind of twisted, psychedelc electro burlesque show complete with dancers dancing, divas singing and VEEN leader Pete prowling about the stage in leather pants and thick heels. A rather apt reflection of the VEEN sound, then.

They may dub themselves as purveyors of something called ‘epictronica’ but such a sketchy word aside Dream Delay really nail this kind of starry, stadium electro. It’s all about thumping beats, no holds barred electro production, a dash of dubstep and, yep, very epic vocals. Get in now before they’re bigger than big.
