SUPER MELODY

July 12th, 2010 by Dave Ruby Howe | 1 Comment | Filed in Hyperbole

I guess Super Melody just get me or something. Why? Because their/his latest single boils down a lot of what I’ve loved over the last few years into a wonderful three minutes of pop. That includes bubbly and rubbery synthesizers, disco percussion and a healthy love for cheeseball guitar solos. You get it now, yeah? So get the track.

MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS

Marina, Marina, Marina. She won’t go away, right? I’m not complaining when the output is this good. You wouldn’t think that she’d sound so good over processed beats but it just seems to work.

FOALS

July 9th, 2010 by Dave Ruby Howe | 2 Comments | Filed in Hyperbole

As well as producing one of the best records of 2010 with Total Life Forever, the recent run of singles from Foals have been extraordinarily overstuffed with amazing remixes. It was the case with This Orient and now again with the pack for Miami. While everyone’s been hyped up about the Tim Fuchs/Flight Facilities rework, this mix from Lost Valentinos adventurer Jono Ma gets my vote as the pick of the litter. It’s got grooves to spare and that brilliant dense production that Jono’s made his signature over the last couple of years while still retaining that slow-burning vibe of the original. You have to hear this.
